Referees have my admiration, says Spurs manager Pochettino

By Ciaran McGrath in Football

REFEREES may come in for a fair amount of criticism in some quarters - but Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino has offered words of praise to this country’s match officials.

The Argentine said: "I’m happy with standards in this country. To be a referee is a very difficult job and always they will have my support. I am happy with the way refereeing in the Premier League is.

"Sometimes when I watch matches from round the world the tempo is so slow, and when there is minimum contact it is a foul.

"Here football is exciting, and that is partly because of the referees. "They are not perfect and everyone makes mistakes but it is difficult to take a decision in such a short space of time. I admire them."
