POTTERS BAR produced a fantastic run chase to ease to a seven-wicket win at home to Hertford on Saturday and pull further clear of the relegation zone in the Premier Division of the Saracens Hertfordshire County Cricket League.
On a high after recording their first victory of the season the previous week, Bar elected to field first after winning the toss but were frustrated by a solid batting display from Hertford as the visitors posted a total of 240-9.
However, the hosts made light of their seemingly stiff target as they encountered few problems in easing to 242-3 to seal an emphatic triumph.
Luke Chapman struck an early blow with the ball for the hosts by dismissing Hertford skipper Richard Leather in the first over before a run had been scored.
James Ilott (3-40) then struck twice to reduce the visitors to 30-3, but William Ray (64) and Ian Harris (33) got Hertford back on track by adding 84 for the fourth wicket.
Benjamin Cowell (42), James Leather (34) and Robert Slater (32 not out) all made useful contributions down the order to ensure that the visitors were able to reach a competitive score before declaring.
But Steve Gale (95) and Harrison Palmer (58) put Bar well on the way to victory with a terrific opening partnership of 162.
Both men did eventually fall, but Thilan Walallawita strengthened the hosts’ position by smashing 40 off just 23 balls and skipper Patrick Scott’s unbeaten 31 ensured that they cruised to their target.
Potters Bar go to Harpenden on Saturday.
