Athletes enjoy crushing win in league match

THE stars of the future at Enfield and Haringey Athletic Club effectively booked their place in the Regional Final of the National Young Athletes League by recording a resounding victory in the latest Southern Premier Division meeting in Kingston.

Enfield and Haringey’s talented youngsters produced a number of outstanding displays to pick up a huge haul of 734.5 points – nearly 200 more than second-placed Woodford Green.

Among the leading performers at under-13 level was Temitope Adeyeye, who won the boys’ 200metres (27.30seconds) and long jump (4.21m) in addition to anchoring the 4x100m relay team – which also included Sean Bazanye Lutu, Clinton Fubara and Oliver O’Sahon-Lubel – to victory.

Fubara also won the shot (7.58m), while George Vaughan took both the high jump (1.31m) and 75m hurdles (13.50m). There were also male victories in the same age group for Michael Ford (100m in 12.70secs) and Youcef Harizi (1,500m in 5minutes 1.80secs).

Tyla Beckles shone for the girls at under-13 level, completing a sprint double (75m in 10.30secs and 150m in 20.50secs) before teaming up with Krystal Matthews, Natassja Allin and Sophia Aymer to win the 4x100m relay.

Allin and Matthews also won the 800m (2mins 43.40secs) and long jump (3.81m) respectively, while Despina Aslam took top spot in the 1,200m (4mins 3.90secs).

Dominic Palmer-Leandre shone in the throwing events at under-15 level as he won both the hammer (43.49m) and shot (12.18m), while Matthew Buckle triumphed in the javelin (41.82m).

There were also individual victories for Rueben Arthur in the 100m (12.20secs), Horeb Makabukidi inthe 400m (56.30secs), Damani Ekeama in the long jump (6.16m) and Maksims Karacun in the pole vault (3.00m), in addition to relay wins for the 4x100m team of Hakeem Parchment, Michael Acheampong, Joel Gilkes and Arthur and the 4x400m quartet of Ekeama, George Faulkner-Mellor, Yanick Mungu and Makabukidi.

Kenisha Allen (100m in 13.40secs), Aena Pipi (200m in 27.30secs), Josephine Connery (1,500m in 5mins 24.1secs), Kaeshelle Cooke (75m hurdles in 12.40secs) and Monique Thompson (javelin with 26.08m) enjoyed individual wins for the under-15 girls, while Cooke, Pipi and Allen joined forces with Chloe Horne to take top spot in the 4x100m relay.

The success was matched at under-17 level, as Chijindu Ujah (100m in 11.50secs) and Clifford Newby (200m in 22.90secs) completed a male sprint double, while Nii-Ashiquaye Hammond won the 400m (51.80secs).

Joe Sherry won both the 800m (2mins 3.80secs) and the 1,500m steeplechase (4mins 43.90secs), and there were also double victories for Anthony Hanchard in the 100m hurdles (15.50secs) and long jump (5.58m) and Andrew Stark in the 400m hurdles (63.90secs) and pole vault (2.90m).

Andre Coggins won the 1,500m (4mins 24.20secs), Tom Carter took the high jump (1.64m) and Matt Jones claimed the javelin (41.98m), while there was also a victory for the 4x400m relay team of Krishawn Aiken, Newby, Hammond and Michael Edwards.

Amy Johnston was a triple winner for the girls as she triumphed in the hammer (37.00m), discus (27.84m) and shot (9.64m), while Elizabeth Grimsey took both the high jump (1.50m) and the pole vault (2.80m).

Mary Fasipe in the triple jump (11.09m) and Sharon Kasinga (javelin with 25.06m) were other victors in the field in this age group.

Winners on the track included Bianca Williams in the 100m (12.60secs), Desiree Henry in the 200m (25.00secs), Eliza Borrett in the 300m (43.20secs), Katie Brown in the 800m (2mins 21.30secs), Charlotte Kerr in the 3,000m (11mins 38.70secs), Sarah Driver in the 300m hurdles (48.80secs) and the 4x300m relay squad of Charlotte Matthams, Borrett, Driver and Brown.
